There are many nice restaurants in Lhasa old district. Most of them are located near the Jokhang Temple and Barkhor. The best Tibet restaurant on Barkhor Street is Makye Ame (beautiful woman in Tibetan Language). The view of the old town from the second-floor restaurant is spectacular. Some other smaller Tibetan restaurants there serve really good food too. For the first time traveler, Yak meat and Tsampa (roasted barley bread) are a must try in Lhasa. For Chinese food (mostly spicy Sichuan) is widely available in the poorly-decorated restaurants. But the taste is not bad. Western food like Nepali, Italian and French can be found in Lhasa. The meals are relevantly inexpensive. Each meal can be as cheap as USD$5per person. Besides eating at local restaurants, travelers can buy snacks in the main supermarkets or the department stores near Beijing Road.
