Hoh Xil(Ke Ke Xi Li) National Nature Reserve's administrative bureau disclosed that it had built a Tibetan antelope rescue, protection and scientific research base at Gysang Soinandaje Nature Protection Station 4,600 meters above sea level, marking that Tibetan antelope protection of this nature reserve is transiting from patrolling the mountains against illegal hunting to combining rescue/protection and scientific researches.
The bureau invested 1 million yuan (US$125,000) to build the Hoh Xil Tibetan Antelope Rescue Center at Gysang Soinandaje Nature Protection Station in 2003, and the project included enclosure of the pastures, warm shelters, work rooms and observation wards, therapy rooms and other infrastructure facilities.
Establishment and operation of this rescue center ensures scientific and thorough rescue and protection for lost or injured Tibetan antelopes and other precious wild animals on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. To date, the rescue center has rescued and raised 12 Tibetan antelopes, 5 Tibetan gazelles and 12 Tibetan wild donkeys.
Early this year, the bureau set up a Tibetan antelope research station near the rescue center to provide satisfactory working conditions for researchers of the bureau and domestic zoologists.
