The groundwork of the Olympic torch relay rehearsal on Mt. Qomolangma (also known as Mt. Everest) has been kept backdoor. According to sources, 53 Tibetan mountaineerers have been under tough drill in 4,200-meter Yangbajain training base, 91-km north of Lhasa, and Huairou District in Beijing to prepare for the test run of the Beijing Olympic torch relay in 2008. Most of the 53 are young mountaineering students.
As planed, all the mountaineering candidates will be mobilized together at the Qomolangma training base in late February. They aim to make a formal rehearsal in March and 10 out of the 53 will join the actual combat in early April.
Candidate selection of the ultimate torch bears is also underway across the country.
The Beijing Olympic torch relay across the Mt. Qomolangma will be carried out around March to May in 2008.
35 climbers will be selected as torch bears of the 2008 Beijing Olympic torch relay across Mt. Qomolangma.
