Currently, the renovation on the Xigaze-Lhaze section of the China-Nepal Highway was completed and it shortens the drive time from Lhasa to Zham Port to one day from the original two days.
China-Nepal Highway aims at linking up Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region and Kathmandu, capital of Nepal. The Xigaze-Lhaze section acts as part of the National Highway 318 from Shanghai to Zham and also the only route from Lhasa to Xigaze and Ngari. Xigaze-Lhaze section is an important channel to connect Zham Port and Purang Port and also a key landway channel for northwestern China to communicate with Nepal and other southeastern Asian countries. As the most important trade channel, the annual trade volume through Xigaze-Lhasa section can amount to 1 billion yuan (about 1,250 million US dollars).
